Supporting Education

HGYP places emphasis on the importance of education in L’Asile, and has been helping 5 schools in the area for the past 6 years. We provide them with: funds for rebuilding after natural disasters and for maintenance, salaries for professors, scholarships for youth that cannot afford to buy required textbooks, uniforms and/or tuition fees, sending over school supplies for both students and professors and furnishing classrooms. The schools were heavily damaged after the earthquake, then again by Hurricanes Sandy and Matthew. When no one stepped in, we did, to start rebuilding the schools so that children do not miss out on an education they deserve and need.

Extra-curricular Activities

We are proud to have established an after-school sewing school. This is a popular program that provides students with the opportunity to learn a craft that they can use to support themselves and their families financially all while being able to be creative. We have over 200 youth enrolled, and a waitlist of 200. 

We organize day camp for youth twice a year, offering a chance for kids to enjoy their youth and get away from the hardships they face. Day camp features fun,games, and competitions and is open to youth age 2-21.

HGYP has started co-ed sports teams that are active throughout the year that engage in local and regional competitions. We provide the equipment for the students to play soccer, basketball, baseball, and volleyball.

Clean Water Initiative and Sustainable Agriculture.

HGYP’s Clean Water Project has been in place since 2012. We installed a solar powered reservoir and piping system that delivers potable water to thousands.

HGYP has taken a commitment to developing local agriculture by offering an exchange program with a group in Mirebalais to learn sustainable agricultural practices. Agriculture is an integral part of the local economy, so by offering opportunities for improvement in agricultural and farming practices, we can not only stimulate the local economy but also combat food insecurity, water waste and promote community gardening as well. 

Health Clinic

Firstly, HGYP provides over the counter medicine and first aid training seminars year round to the community. 

HGYP has been collaborating with community leaders and doctors from Haiti, the US, and the Dominican Republic to offer affordable health clinics to the community of L'Asile. Doctors with various specializations such as pediatricians, gynecologists, cardiologists, nutritionists and many others have been coming to L'Asile to offer their services; providing check ups, medication, treatment plans, tests, and diagnoses. For many residents of L'Asile,  these clinics were their first time ever receiving medical care. What is most important about these health clinics is not just that it gives the people of L'Asile access to medical care, but also there are follow-ups on their cases, and other medical needs as well as their course of treatment for any ailments they might have,
