About Us

Established in 2012 by the Zama family in Boston, Haiti Global Youth Partnership Inc. (HGYP) is a 501(c)3 organization headquartered in Boston that provides year round support to L’Asile, Haiti. L’Asile is a commune in the south of Haiti with a population of 33,000. Since 2012, HGYP has been organizing programs geared towards education, access to clean water, and developing agriculture within L’Asile, all with the hopes of seeing the region develop sustainably. The Zama family originates from L'Asile, after seeing the potential for the development and the lack of resources being allocated to L'Asile, which is the case for many other rural areas in Haiti, the Zama family decided to step up and create a formal organization to start raising money, collecting donations, and implement programs in L'Asile to help with development and youth support in L'Asile.

HGYP places emphasis on the importance of education in L’Asile, and has been helping 5 schools in the area for the past 6 years. We provide them with: funds for rebuilding after natural disasters and for maintenance, salaries for professors, scholarships for youth that cannot afford to buy required textbooks, uniforms and/or tuition fees, sending over school supplies for both students and professors and furnishing classrooms. The schools were heavily damaged after the earthquake, then again by Hurricanes Sandy and Matthew. When no one stepped in, we did, to start rebuilding the schools so that children do not miss out on an education they deserve and need.

HGYP has also started extracurricular co-ed sports programs and a sewing school where 300 children learn to sew and design clothing, this is a craft that allows them to help their families financially and it also serves as a creative outlet. Twice a year we organize day camp for youth of all ages, open to students and non students, where the youth are able to play and eat together and engage in friendly competition. Life in rural Haiti is not easy, and so we want to provide a chance for these kids to be kids. We visit over 3 schools in the area to host day camp, and we average an attendance of 300 youth per school. We organize boys and girls' soccer tournaments open to all ages, races, marble tournaments, domino tournaments, and arts competitions (drawing, singing, dancing, acting, poetry).

Furthermore, we organize teacher training seminars yearly and have started community gardening initiatives and sustainable agriculture programs. HGYP’s Clean Water Project has been in place since 2014. We installed a solar powered reservoir and piping system that delivers potable water to thousands. We regularly organize day camp activities for youth as well, and have doctors from the US and the Dominican Republic conduct affordable  health clinics for the community.

We have mobilized our community in L'Asile to unify and brainstorm new ideas as to how we can advance development in L'Asile. We have a team in L'Asile that supervises our daily activities and sends back reports to our headquarters in Boston so that we are aware of the needs of the community and the progress we have been making.

As a small organization, we pride ourselves in having a direct tie to the community that we serve. When you contribute to HGYP, know that your contribution directly reaches the people of L'Asile, Haiti.
